Lou Dubose

Louis Dubose

Louis (Lobit) Dubose was born April 16, 1949, in Harris county. He left Houston in the early 1970s for Liberty, Texas, which had at least in those days, the distinction of being the seat of the Price Daniels. He worked on the venerable Liberty Vindicator until 1983 when he found himself composing his own obituary for amusement, and decided it was time to find a third path in John Wayne's famous dictum "If this is Liberty, give me death." Dubose has since served more than a decade as editor of the Texas Observer, a stint as political editor for the Austin Chronicle, and has contributed columns and articles to many progressive publications. Dubose holds a master's in Latin American studies.
