These are the descendants of John and Nancy McBride as recorded in my database at the time this page was last made. Only given names are entered for persons surnamed Eighner. Otherwise, surnames are shown in ALL CAPS. People who might be living and who have not explicitly given me permission to name here are represented by a capital M, F, or U (for male, female, or unknown) and a code word or number. Code names and numbers are chosen at random and are not meant to suggest anything about the person whose name they stand for. It is very likely that some deceased people are shown here by code name or number because I do not have a reliable report of the death. It is also possible that I have listed someone as deceased because I have misidentified him or her or made a false assumption because of his or her advanced age; I have tried very hard to avoid this kind of error, but in a mass of data like this, errors are almost inevitable.
I have been unable to turn up any reliable information on some branches, and in other cases I have a little information which might the basis for some good guesses, but have not entered my guesses in the database. There are numerous defects in tracing descendants through the female line (that is, families of daughters). I originally set out to trace the Eighner name. When I had software sufficiently good to include the girls, I found it was extremely difficult to turn up information on them once their surname changed. In several cases what little information I have owes to researchers working on the girls' married names.

This page contains figures about the descendants of John and Nancy MCBRIDE and guesses about John's ancestry. These ASCII diagrams will almost certainly sound like nonsense in a speech browser. Please consult the narrative for a summary.
Curly brackets indicate information deleted or edited according to the Privacy Policy. The Eighner surname is usually omitted in narratives and charts. Maiden name other than Eighner and other surnames other than Eighner are shown in all capital letters.
Dotted lines represent unsubstantiated or dubious relationships (guesses). Bars and hyphens (minus signs) represent relationship supported by some evidence I have. Equals signs (=) represent marriages. Double colons (::) represent marriages which are not substantiated or substantiated only by dubious reports. Question marks indicate information that is unknown, doubtful, or variously reported.
Dates, ages, and locations preceded by c indicate approximations. This may indicate a guess, but usually in the case of birth dates it comes from estimating the year of birth from age at death or from ages reported to the census — in either case if the day of birth is not known or the census day has not been strictly observed, the year of birth may be off by one. Dates of death may be approximate if there is reason to believe the report or discovery of the death was not immediate, as may happen when there is only a date for the appearance of an obituary. The indication of a location being approximate indicates some real uncertainty about the place, not merely the difference between the actual place of an event and the nearest registry.
